    Take The Long Home Road

Take the long road home is an original Indie folk – rock song about life's journey, the roads we've traveled, and the importance of slowing down to appreciate the moments along the way. With warm acoustic guitar, melodic mandolin, steady drums, and a nostalgic 1970s singer – songwriter Phil, the song reflects on the passing years, life's disappointments, and the opportunities that tomorrow can bring. We can't change the roads behind us, but there's always another sunrise ahead.

    Those Santa Cruz Nights

A nostalgic journey back to the Santa Cruz summers of the late 1970s. A time of great music, cruising with friends, beach bonfires, and unforgettable memories. Though the years have passed, those Santa Cruz nights will always live on.

    The Passage

Check out this original song by W.S. Cliff Music about love, memories, and the journey through life’s changing seasons. A reflection on the moments that stay with us.

    Hearts of Stone

Hearts of Stone is one of the most personal songs I've ever written. I wrote it shortly after Brenda and I married in Lake Havasu, playing it for her on my mandolin as we began our journey together.

Years later, I shared it with my friend and producer, Scotty Dotson. After Brenda's stage four pancreatic cancer diagnosis in April 2026, I lost my desire to play music. Then, unexpectedly, Scotty sent me his beautiful production of Hearts of Stone.

Brenda and I listened through tears, reliving memorie

    The Grass Ain't Always Greener

The Grass Ain’t Always Greener – W.S. Cliff Music

A song about life’s choices, the temptation of what lies beyond the fence, and the realization that what appears greener on the other side isn’t always what it seems. Sometimes the pursuit of something different leads us down unexpected roads, reminding us that what we leave behind may have been more valuable than we realized.

    Bron Yr Aur

I’ve always loved this song by Led Zeppelin. The title is Welsh for “Breast of Gold,” referring to the hillside where the cottage retreat is located and where the band worked on their third album.

I often think about how incredible it would have been to hang out with these musicians back in their heyday, writing and creating those unforgettable songs.

Here’s my interpretation of this beautiful instrumental, featuring my Weber mandolin, mic’d up and ready to play!

    Sunrise In McCall

Check out this great video, Sunrise in McCall

Originally composed in 2005, this instrumental piece captures the peaceful beauty of a sunrise over McCall, Idaho. With warm acoustic guitars, melodic mandolin, and rhythmic drums, the music gradually builds into an uplifting journey.

It’s a musical reflection of those quiet moments when a new day begins, the mountains come alive, and there’s a sense of peace and possibility in the air.

    Song For Bella

This is a song I wrote back in 2005 using synthesizer. I really didn't know what to do with the song until my daughter. Kristin informed me that I was going to be a grandpa. After going through several songs, I figured this one was perfect to dedicate to Bella!

    Drift Away With Me

An original Guitar and Mandolin Instrumental

    Ride This Train

Check out this great video, Ride This Train

A song about two people searching for love, trust, and a deeper commitment to one another. They both want to believe in what they have, so they make a pact to ride through life’s ups and downs together.

But as the journey unfolds, there’s always that lingering question: Did they really mean what they promised, or were they just caught up in the moment?
